2024-08-16A roundup of the day at Newcastle Under Lyme
What a day! The weather was amazing, the course was in excellent condition and bacon butties were delicious (more on the food later :))
I'm pretty sure everyone had a great day, even those (including yours truly) who had less than average rounds. I'm even sure that Mr Vice Captain also had a good day despite getting off to, let's say, a mixed start. Seve, the moral of the story is go for a **** a bit earlier :)
I don't think many members of the society had ever played here previously, but I think we could be back, it was in brilliant condition from the tee boxes to the greens, although the rough, even though it looked easy caught a few people out. The fairways were some of the best I think we have played on but it took me until about the 10th before I actually hit one.
Winner on the day was Dean Robinson with an impressive 36, not bad winning the frog one month and the comp the next. The frog winner was Gary Griffiths but we know he'll be back in the winners circle soon.
Finally, a special mention should go to the golf club's catering staff for the quality of the food and the service, the butties in the morning were top notch and the fish and chips were fantastic, however , poor old John Evans did have a bit of a wait for his, not because of the staff but because Tom Bennett nicked it!! and Mr Potter was a bit grumpy because he said his fish wasn't as "puffy" as the others lol.
A another great day with great people
