A game of two halves
The 19th Hole Trophy headed to The Shropshire this time around, and the course didn't disappoint. Greens were rolling nicely, fairways looked the part, and everything was in good nick — just what you want when there's silverware on the line.
The weather, though? A proper game of two halves. The early birds had it cushy — calm, dry, and genuinely pleasant out there, with plenty of scoring to be had. The later groups weren't quite so lucky. The rain rolled in and suddenly the scorecard started feeling a lot heavier. A reminder, as if we needed one, that tee times can make all the difference.
Results
Top of the pile was Eddie Price with a very tidy 30 points. Mind you, he had to work for it — things were so tight at the top it came down to countback, and Eddie just had the edge when the back nines were compared. Silverware secured.
Hard luck to Dave Owens, who matched Eddie's 30 points and came agonisingly close. Second place after countback is one of those "so near, so far" finishes, but a cracking round all the same.
Spare a thought for Dave Jones, playing off a fierce 5 handicap, who found it tough going out there. He still ground out 15 points though — not the afternoon he'd have wanted, but enough to keep him off the bottom rung.
Which brings us, inevitably, to the Frog. This week's proud owner of the title is Bob Hinds, who came home with 14 points. Chin up, Bob — green looks good on you.
The Verdict
Mixed weather, a well-presented course, and a top spot decided by the tightest of margins — you can't really ask for much more from a day's golf. Plenty of good chat, plenty of banter, and another comp done and dusted.
A big congrats to Eddie Price on lifting the 19th Hole Trophy. Enjoy it, Eddie — you've earned it.
