The Adie Clarke Trophy was contested at Grenway Hall Golf Club near Stoke on Trent this year. I think that the majority of members enjoyed it but from some comments I think it can be classed as a marmite course. We were advised that the greens were not in the best condition and most agreed this was the case (so many 3 putts recorded). There were also some very strange holes with 3 greens and fairways crossing each other in one spot. Despite this the weather was wonderful and the entertainment on the 18th green being next to a pub was quite unusual. Lots of prayers were said silently when playing around the green with so many people watching.
One interesting stat was that there were 7 par 3's on the course which meant that the society had 203 attempts for a two (i.e. money shots), however, despite all of these attempts only 3 two's were recorded - Good ain't we?
Congratulations to Paul Ellis on his "Adie Clarke Trpoghy" win. On top of this Paul successfully defended the annual Adie Clarke memorial day at Market Drayton this year as well as Saturday's victory. Commiserations to Alex Nichols who took home the frog.
All in all a great day with lots of laughs (and a few expletives).
