The opening event of the SGS 2022 season, The Glyn Edwards Trophy, was held at Walsall Golf Club.

The par 70 parkland course set in the heart of the West Midlands provided some challanging golf on the day with damp under foot conditions coupled with an abundance of greenside bunkers to navigate. An average score of 23.4 proving the tough playing conditions.

With new captain Colin Robinson struck with covid and unable to drive into office at his inaugural event he provided the tins to see us off on the first tee so thanks Col and we look forward to seeing you drive into office at the next event.

With some solid golf played on the day it was Ian Semple who took the win with 37 points with Gary Griffiths coming runner up with 33 points. Well done both.

Honorary club treasurer Bob Potter took home the saught after frog trophy much to my relief after a long winter of it my taking up too much room in my garage.

A great first event for the season with an enjoyable round and good company as always and great to welcome along all the new members as well.

A special mention to wish Elliot Evans, who up keeps the website, a speedy recovery from his knee op which will see him out for the season and we look forward to getting you back playing again next year.

The next event will be Saturday 23rd April at Wergs Golf Club for 19th Hole.
